From pandemic panic to a million dollars of new annual revenue.
When travel stopped in 2020, so did the pipeline of a firm whose whole business was selling destinations to travellers who could not go anywhere. Eighteen months later it was ranked first in its market. This is what happened in between.

The client
Gulf Reps is a Dubai firm that represents tourism boards in the Gulf market. When a destination such as Visit Saudi or Las Vegas wants GCC travellers, Gulf Reps is the team on the ground that gets them there. Its clients are tourism authorities, its buyers are their marketing directors, and its sales cycle runs on relationships and reputation.
Where they started
Nobody was travelling and nobody was buying representation. The firm sat eighth in a market of about ten, and the phone had stopped. Every tourism board had frozen its budget. Every competitor was cutting prices to hold the clients it had. The firm's marketing, such as it was, consisted of a brochure and the founder's network.
What was wrong
The diagnosis was not "no demand". Tourism boards were going to spend again; the question was where, and on what evidence. Nobody in the market could answer that, because nobody had asked GCC travellers what they would do when borders reopened. The firm was selling a service into a vacuum of information. The vacuum was the opportunity.
What we did
We ran primary research: a survey of GCC travellers on how COVID would change where they went and why. We wrote it up as a white paper, "The impact of COVID-19 on GCC traveller choices", and made it the only thing the firm talked about for six months. Every tourism board that would need the answer received it directly, followed by an invitation to discuss what it meant for their destination. The firm stopped selling representation and started supplying the evidence tourism boards needed to justify their next budget.
Specifically enough that a competitor could copy it: one survey, one paper, one outreach list of named marketing directors, one follow-up sequence, run for six months without changing the subject.
What changed
Forty nine qualified leads, each a tourism board worth USD 100,000 or more a year in representation fees. Ten of them closed into contracts. Incremental annual revenue of one million US dollars, and a move from eighth in the market to first. The period covered is 2020 to 2022, and every one of those figures is the client's own.
What the numbers do not show: the firm now has a research asset it can repeat every year, and a reason to be in the room before a budget is set rather than after.
The evidence
Lead count, closed contracts, revenue and market ranking: client-reported, supplied by Gulf Reps and used with permission. Survey sample and white paper: Cush-measured, our own records. Nothing here was measured by a platform. Period: 2020 to 2022.
Your buyers are also waiting for someone to answer a question nobody has asked.
The sector was tourism. The move was research your buyers need, published under your name, taken directly to the people who decide budgets. It works in consultancy, healthcare, education and software for the same reason: the firm that supplies the evidence gets invited to the meeting where the money is decided.
